Great advice! And the Notes inadequacies are real. I see a live and think oh gosh I need to watch it, comment on it, share it! I dont let it get in the way of my writing — but it def hampers the amount of reading I can do b
Thanks so much for the comment about the conversation with Hamish about the launch of "Notes." I find I am able to gain new readers and subscribers more effectively than anything else by offering readers pieces of writing, not advice about writing. I don't restrict who can read and comment on my "Notes" or stack posts. I don't have a paywall, and by welcoming new readers with an interest in literary narrative, I've grown my stack to 16,000 subscribers in a little more than three years.
Super helpful advice—especially for those of us that have a full-time job and need to carve out our special Substack time. Thanks Sarah.
When you think you're just going to take a sip...
I absolutely fall into the well of Notes sometimes.
I stop by trying to be supportive, lean a little too far over the edge, and next thing you know, down the well I go!
My problem is not not writing enough but allowing myself to write more.
Many calendar apps, such as Google’s, allow us to create multiple calendars and overlay them.
You can use that feature to create a new calendar of recurring time blocks that provides a general guide.
Then you can use your default calendar for adding in the specific tasks within that framework.
You can then hide the framework calendar until the next time you do some scheduling, to keep your calendar view as clean as possible.
I teach on fridays 10-12 pst for the next 16 weeks. So sorry to miss your class. I hope you’ll offer it again in the spring or next summer.
Soooo helpful. I will time block from now on!
