Take-aways from the AWP25 Conference in Los Angeles last week....

Author Rich Benjamin suggests asking yourself these three questions before writing a memoir:

1. Does this story need to be told?

2. Does it need to be told by me?

3. Does it need to be told right now?

SATURDAY POST

QUOTE

Good morning my cloud neighbours. Read this carefully and take it into consideration. I love this quote. Whole art of life is condensed in these words:

“In life you could lost everything except one thing – freedom to choose how to react on events. The quality of our life is determined by our attitude toward reality, and the state of our spirit created by reality”. (by Viktor Frankl, Austrian neurologist ant psychologist)

TRAVEL / CULTURE | TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS

https://substack.com/@hollystarley/note/c-101463722

A sign in my van window: “Trans Rights Are Human Rights.” I broke down in a place whose political leanings I wasn’t sure of and had a moment of knee-jerk, bias-based reaction, a twinge of fear. I think of the number of us living in very real fear very much of the time, and my heart breaks.

With a quote by Pedro Pascal: “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people, who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.”

Expressing Gratitude

Gratitude isn't expressed through acknowledgment—gratitude is expressed through engagement.

It's not enough to count blessings; we must use them.

It's not enough to appreciate opportunities; we must seize them.

It's not enough to recognize gifts; we must embody them.

SYNTHETIC-FREE FRAGRANCES / HEALTH

It ain’t easy being a crunchy frag-head.

“Many studies show that most perfumes, even in small amounts, can cause neurological disorders in the fetus of pregnant mothers.”

THE POWER OF GRATITUDE

Gratitude isn’t just a nice feeling—it’s a force that shapes our health, longevity, and even our energy.

Modern research confirms what ancient wisdom has long taught: practicing gratitude reduces stress, improves heart health, and may even help you live longer.

Traditional Chinese medicine sees gratitude as a vital energy that harmonizes the body. A Harvard study found that gratitude lowers mortality risk and protects the heart.

And yet, in our fast-paced world, gratitude often takes a backseat. What if we made it a daily habit?

What are you grateful for today?

Someone in your circle might need to hear this today—restack to spread the reminder.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Good morning my cloud neighbours. I am so glad to know you, and to know that there were, are, and will be the people in the world who have inborn feeling of the universal justice. They are not the richest people in the world, but they are the keepers of humanity. Let’s join them no matter what.

DOGS/ LOVING AFTER MOURNING

Rona Maynard

1m

A friend has happily remarried since losing her beloved first husband to cancer.

On Facebook she smiles beside Husband Number Two. Similar photos honor Husband Number One on his birthday.

I used to wonder how she embraced two great loves without diminishing either one.

Then I started walking our new rescue dog, Chica, two months after losing Casey.

While making new memories with Chica, I retrace walks with Casey. I relive the joy of those rambles.

Chica joined us exactly two weeks ago, full of spark and sass. Casey was my gentle doofus. I’ll always miss him. And yet, if not for Casey, I wouldn’t have Chica to love.

Thanks to dogs, I understand my friend.

SPIRITUALITY - WRITING

I’ve taken my books off of Amazon but they continue to sell them, to profit from my work - without paying me. I would love it if you’d buy my books from me, directly. There are two books:

TIME

I showed up sleepy to my 10am team meeting today, as did everyone else; none of us were on top of our game.

One co-worker hadn’t realized the time had changed till he showed up an hour late on Sunday morning to pick up his son — who, fortunately, thought it was funny.

Whether you prefer Standard Time or Daylight Saving Time, you likely aren’t down with the twice-yearly time change. But is the culprit ST or DST? Is it even the time change itself?

Maybe there’s something wrong with our very relationship with time. Maybe there’s something wrong with how we ignore the seasons’ natural rhythms. Maybe there’s something missing in the time change debate.

Not much has changed since I wrote about this over two years ago: https://flowerchild.substack.com/p/whats-missing-in-time-change-debate

SOBRIETY

I did a scary thing. I submitted a piece to Dana Leigh Lyons’ Sober App Substack and she published it today.

It’s revealing in a way most of my other pieces aren’t.

AGING/ FITNESS/ LOVING YOUR BODY

I used to groan when my Pilates teacher said, “Time for the rollover.”

I never felt safe in that move. And it hurt.

Today I told the teacher I had a special request: the rollover. It makes my spine purr. Gives tight places permission to let go.

When I hated rollovers, I was a sprout of 60.

Now I’m 75. My arthritic feet are getting worse, but my spine is getting better. It reaches toward the sky like a supple young tree.
