If you’ve ever missed a week posting, stared at a blank draft, or felt your momentum slipping, you’re in good company. Consistency is a skill, and it can be learned.
Too often on Substack, we feel pressure to constantly produce lengthy, polished posts—we think "quality" = more, and we end up overextended and stressed, feeling like nothing is working. I'm going to share my biggest tech tips for posting consistently on Substack and tips for not falling into these traps, including the Nugget post: a gift to your readers that comes from a genuine desire to share something that means something to you right now.
Then poet and professor Mary Hickman of Consult a Poet will show us how to keep the ideas, imagery, and material flowing. If you've ever missed a week posting, stared at a blank draft, or felt your momentum slipping, you're in good company. Mary will explore two surprising and fun entry points — haiku and journaling — that can keep you showing up. You don't need to write haiku or keep a journal to benefit. These are on-ramps into a deeper question: How do we continually return to and renew our writing practice?
We'll also talk about what to do when you're too creative—have too many great ideas—and how to avoid going down the rabbit hole of research.
