How do we allow a preview of the video when we email it to paid subscribers?

Sarah said to tell you this (she's out running and transmitting from her run): On the video there's an image of a lock on the side. Click that and you can set the preview to however long you want. That will automatically paywall the whole post, so if you want free subscribers to read a portion, make sure you put in a paywall.

TY!

Thank you, Sarah. It’s so refreshing to hear all of the new features/ best practices, along with “You don’t have to do this, but if you do, here are some ideas” with links. And looking forward to learning more about using haiku!

If anyone is frightened of taking part in a Live, I was too, pulled out of one and then wrote about it. It was a well read post. See https://arichardson.substack.com/p/i-pulled-out-of-a-substack-live-was (Sarah - if you feel it is inappropriate to add this link, feel free to delete it)

Sarah said it's okay as long as it's not a paid promotion, which knowing you it isn't.

Ann Richardson's avatar

No. I don't even know what a paid promotion is!

Hilarious! I knew it!

When I read this, my heart sank. I've done all this kind of thing before and I just don't want to do it. BUT - I am so glad that Sarah has created this, just in case I change my mind! Which is entirely possible. You never know. So I am stashing it away and we will see what happens. Change can come in a moment, after all.

I hear you, Jane. The main takeaway: Don’t do them unless they come naturally!

Sarah, to clarify, did you say we could post a link to our Live in the W@W chat?

Sarah Fay, PhD's avatar

Absolutely! As long as it’s open to all your subscribers.

This makes me want to really consider doing a live at some point. Relieved to know you don’t have to be on camera and can create a live in other ways.

You just made me realize another benefit of not sending Live posts to subscribers automatically: in my experience, they have much lower open rates, so if you do them regularly, they bring down your average open rate.

Very helpful, Sarah. I have a similar feeling about not sending auto emails to my subscribers. We had an odd experience a couple months ago w/ one of our monthly Lives . . . Nearly 200 people jumped on (and stayed), mostly new to us. The next month, it was a more predictable 35. We're experimenting with time of day, but that's been mystifying.

Love the idea of using QR code, which I did find in my settings, but I don't seem to have a "brand effects"option when setting up the Live. Any advice?

I did my first live last month with a collaborator and I loved it! I hadn’t thought of the QR code on screen. Thanks for the tip.

It's a shame this platform, originally meant for writers, is now trying to be utube, instagram, facebook all in one swoop. I loved this subscription but now finding it's a part time job to keep up with your posts and feeling "behind" all the time. I may pause until I have the time to dedicate.

Thank you for the shout out, Sarah! And I love this break down on lives. As always, I appreciate you!
